(SBU) DCM delivered ref A demarche to Ambassador Alberto
D'Alotto, chief of staff to Argentine FM Jorge Taiana,
stressing that we were now looking for firm commitments in
anticipation of the June 18 election for the Director General
of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
D'Alotto said he liked U.S. candidate Ambassador Swing,
recalling that they worked together on Congo when D'Alotto
was Argentine Deputy Perm Rep to the UN. D'Alotto said U/S
for Multilateral Affairs Raul Ricardes also looked favorably
on Swing's candidacy (as reported ref B) and undertook to
discuss with FM Taiana. Embassy will follow up with other
MFA officials.
