SUBJECT: DIPLOMATIC CLEARANCE REQUEST FOR TROPICAL STORM
AND HURRICANE RECONNAISSANCE MISSIONS APPROVED

1. On May 16, Econoff initiated efforts with MilGroup Air
Force South Air Operations and Coordination Cell (AAOCC)
Office to request diplomatic overflight clearance for
tropical storm and hurricane reconnaissance aircraft from the
GOC in accordance with reftel. AAOCC made the request to the
Colombian Director of Navigational Affairs of the GOC Air
Force (DINAV). On May 23, DINAV advised AAOCC that the
request had been approved and appropriate documentation will
follow the week of May 27. Post will forward when received.
2. Econoff also contacted the Colombian Ministry of External
Relations (MRE) North America Desk Officer Claudia Cuevas and
delivered demarche. Cuevas agreed to distribute demarche
information to appropriate GOC agencies.
