1. (SBU) Charge delivered ref A points on May 21 and ref B points on
May 22 to Joana Hj Daniel, Assistant Director of the Political I
Department (ASEAN member countries) at the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and Trade (MoFAT). She had no immediate response. Please
note that Friday is a non-working day in Brunei. Post will e-mail
any substantive response we receive on Saturday.
2. (U) Note: the Burma DCM told us earlier this week that his
embassy has collected a considerable quantity of humanitarian
assistance goods donations - primarily food and medicine - in Brunei
from private Bruneians and resident Burmese nationals. He said that
to date, the Burmese embassy has shipped over 4 metric tons of cargo
by airfreight and a twenty foot container by sea to aid Cyclone
Nargis victims. He did not provide any details about how this aid
would be distributed in Burma.
