SUBJECT: ARGENTINA: MAGDALENA FAILLACE CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENCY OF
INTER-AMERICAN COMMISSION FOR WOMEN
1. Embassy received from the Argentine MFA a diplomatic note
soliciting USG support for Ambassador Magdalena Faillace as a
candidate for President of the Inter-American Commission for Women
(CIM). Elections will take place during the CIM's Ordinary Assembly
of Delegates this November.
2. Since July 2006, Magdalena Faillace has held the MFA position of
Special Representative for the Discussion of Women's Issues.
Faillace previously served as Undersectary for Culture 2003-04 and
1994-96. Embassy officers have had warm and productive contact with
Ambassador Faillace.
3. Post will pouch to the Department a copy of Faillace's
curriculum vitae and requests Department's guidance on how to
respond to the MFA's diplomatic note.
