1. In response to reftel Econoff contacted Luz Estella
Mendez, Director of the Office of International Cooperation
for the Colombian Ministry of Social Protection. Mendez said
the Colombian government joined with the World Health
Organization (WHO) to celebrate World Health Day in two
important activities. First, Minister of Social Protection
Diego Palacio and WHO country representative Dr. Pier Paolo
Balladelli signed a Declaration regarding the International
Health Regulations (IHR) in which Colombia committed to put
in place all actions necessary to implement the IHR. Second,
Balladelli met with 1,000 students and teaching staff at a
seminar at the University of Antioquia to discuss the
relationship between climate change and public health.
