Julian Juarez, the Deputy Director General of the
Office of Peace and International Security in the Foreign
Ministry's UN Office advised Deputy PolCouns 2/21 that Mexico
had issued a press bulletin on 2/19 announcing its position
on Kosovo's declaration of independence. In its public
pronouncement on this matter:
-- Mexico notes that it has analyzed the deliberations that
have occurred within the UN Security Council as well as the
European Union's Council of Ministers.
-- It calls upon all of the parties involved to forge
a mutually acceptable solution to Kosovo's status that
respects
the rights of minorities and preserves peace and security in
the
Balkans.
-- Mexico invites the parties involved to solve this
matter within the framework of the pertinent mulitlateral
organizations and in compliance with international law.
-- Mexico concludes noting its intention to continue
following
developments in Kosovo with a view to adopting at an opportune
moment a position regarding Kosovo's declaration of
independence.
