DONOR FUNDS

Deputy Economic Counselor delivered reftel demarche points
and background December 14, 2007 to Johan Rydberg, Deputy
Director, Africa Department at the Swedish Ministry of
Foreign Affairs (MFA). Rydberg noted that the Government of
Sweden (GOS) supports the Juba peace process and believes
that it has the best possibility of resolving the conflict in
northern Uganda peacefully. He said that as a donor country,
the GOS monitors the use of its funds carefully and has asked
the Swedish Embassy in Kampala, Uganda to inquire into the
possible misuse of funds by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA).
Rydberg added that he would inform post of the MFA's
findings once the accountability of Juba donor funds has been
determined. Post will report any further response septel.
