1. (SBU) On September 12, poloff met with the MFA Burma desk
officer, Jeremy Petit, and presented reftel points. Petit,
who agreed with all points, then handed poloff a September 12
op-ed from French daily Le Figaro by MFA Secretary of State
for Human Rights Rama Yade. In the article, Yade calls for a
greater push for democratization in Burma on the part of
France. Petit noted that Yade emphasizes the need for France
to work with Asian countries to achieve this goal, while also
insisting on concrete measures to end repression in Burma.
Petit confirmed that the EU will present a resolution on
human rights in Burma to the UN Third Committee.
