SUBJECT: Kenya Requests Support for IMO Council Re-election
1. (U) Sensitive but Unclassified. Please protect accordingly. For
internal USG distribution only.
2. (U) This is an action request. Please see para. 4.
3. (SBU) The GOK sent a diplomatic note to the Embassy requesting
USG support for Kenya's re-election to the Council of the
International Maritime Organization (IMO) as a category C member.
Post has found the GOK generally supportive of USG positions and
policies on maritime issues. Post is aware of USG policy not to
express in advance positions on candidates for positions at
international organizations.
4. (SBU) Action request: Please notify post if any reasons exist for
opposing Kenya's candidacy at the November IMO Assembly in London.
