Per reftel request, Polecon officer delivered information on
Ms. Gaer's professional experience on August 3 and urged
Portugal to join the U.S. in supporting her candidacy. Both
MFA Director for Human Rights Susana Vaz Patto and
International Organizations Officer Pedro Pinto welcomed the
information but stated that Portugal will inform us of its
position closer to the elections in October.
In a follow-up conversation with Pinto on September 7, he
confirmed that the Portuguese position would be announced in
the next few weeks.
