Poloff spoke with Sherif Refaat, 2nd Secretary at the MFA
Office of UN Affairs, on August 1 regarding the Egyptian
delegation to the 62nd UN General Assembly. Refaat said that
plans are still being made, but provided the following
preliminary information on the Egyptian delegation:
A. Attendance of the Head of State.
-- No Head of State attendance.
B. Attendance of the Head of Government.
-- No Head of Government attendance.
C. Attendance of the Foreign Minister.
-- Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Minister of Foreign Affairs
-- Arrival and departure dates not yet known
-- Spouse travel not yet known, but she usually does not
attend.
-- No interpretation necessary
D. Attendance of other host country VIPs.
-- Not yet known
E. Attendance of the Foreign Ministry official responsible
for IO affairs or official who is a regular interlocutor
of regional assistant secretaries or Department
principals.
