1. (SBU) On June 1 poloff met with Park Chul-min, MOFAT's
Disarmament and Nonproliferation Director, to formally
welcome the ROKG into the Global Initiative (GI) as a new
partner nation; deliver ref a points including a request for
a government-wide GI point-of-contact (POC); and encouraging
active ROKG participation in GI activities. In a subsequent
meeting on June 5, Disarmament and Nonproliferation Division
Acting Director Ham Sang-wook told poloff that the ROKG
planned to attend the June 11-12 GI conference in Kazakhstan
with a delegation headed by MOFAT Deputy Director-General for
International Organizations Hwang Joon-kook. The ROKG
delegation will also include the ROK government-wide GI POC
