1. (SBU) The Government of Tanzania (GOT) agrees that
Zimbabwe is not a good candidate to chair the 2008 session of
the UN Commission on Sustainable Development, Suleiman Saleh,
Foreign Service Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs'
Multilateral Affairs Department, told PolOff on April 12.
Saleh appreciated the suggestion that Tanzania announce its
candidacy and forwarded the request to the GOT mission in New
York on April 12.
2. (SBU) As of COB (local time) April 13, the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs had not received a response from Tanzania's
UN Mission. However, Saleh is scheduled to travel to New
York on April 16 and promised to follow-up personally.
