1. EconPolCouns delivered ref (a) demarche on March 29 to
Ralph Scheide, the Austrian MFA's Director for the Middle
East and Africa. Per ref (b), on March 28, EconUnit Chief
had delivered ref (c) demarche the implementation of UNSCR
1747 to the Austrian Finance Ministry.
2. Scheide echoed ref (b) comments that Austria would
implement UNSCR 1747 speedily and fully.
3. Scheide mused about the need for a strategy regarding the
next steps to take in the event that Iran did not respond
positively to the latest Security Council action. He said
contacts between EU High Representative Javier Solana and
Iranian nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani would be extremely
important in the effort to move the Iranians in the right
direction.
