REF: STATE 34009
1. On March 19, Poloff sent information detailing the U.S.
government's concerns about the recent events in Zimbabwe as
well as Secretary Rice's statement calling for the immediate
release of the imprisoned Zimbabwean opposition leaders to
Alejandro Solano Ortiz, deputy foreign policy director at the
Costa Rican Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
2. Solano responded on March 21, stating that Costa Rica
shares the USG's concern over the attacks against the
democratic opposition in Zimbabwe. Solano added that the MFA
would instruct its mission in Geneva to support any
initiatives in the HRC to improve the situation in Zimbabwe.
