10. Charge stressed the negative implications of the test
for international efforts to combat proliferation,
international terrorism, and the spread of weapons of mass
destruction, and noted that the U.S. is encouraging other
governments to denounce the North Korean action. Ambassador
de Silva said the GSL is very concerned about this issue and
will be watching closely developments at the UN Security
Council in New York. She stressed that Sri Lanka is a
signatory to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear
Weapons.
