DIRECTOR GENERAL
Per a dipnote dated September 6, 2006, the Mexican
Secretariat of Foreign Relations (SRE) reiterated its request
SIPDIS
for USG support for Secretary of Public Health Dr. Julio
Frenk's candidacy as Director General of the World Health
Organization (WHO). The election of the next Director
General will take place at the next WHO Executive Board
meeting in Geneva, 6-8 November. In the same dipnote, the
SRE announced its support for Ruth Wedgwood, the USG
candidate for the UN Human Rights Committee, who was
re-elected on September 7, 2006.
