On July 28, Poloff delivered reftel demarche to Dr. Luis
Angel Benavides, Director of International Policy and Civil
and Political Rights, and Sylvia Cabrera, Director for
Democracy, both of the Secretariat of Foreign Relations.
Benavides and Cabrera were familiar with the work to date of
Professor Ruth Wedgwood on the U.N. Human Rights Committee.
They noted that they have received several requests to
support nominations to the Committee from other missions, and
they are still evaluating all of the candidates. Post will
report any updates as they become available.
