SUBJECT: SOUTHEAST TURKEY PRESS SUMMARY JUNE 19-20, 2004
This is the Southeastern Turkey press summary for June 19-21,
2004. Please note that Turkish press reports often contain

POLITICAL, SECURITY, HUMAN RIGHTS
Ekspres,Bolge / Security Forces intervened against protestors
who wanted to have a Istanbul NATO Summit protest in Incirlik
village, Adana. The protesting group threw stones at the
security forces.
Ozgur Gundem, Ekspres, Bolge, Hurriyet / A group of women in
Adana protested the Istanbul NATO Summit at Kultur Sokak. In
Mersin, a group of women also protested the summit.
Ozgur Gundem / HPG members organized rocket attacks against the
Asagi Torunoba and Garip Usagi Jandarma stations in Ovacik,
Tunceli.
Zaman, Milliyet / A Turkish soldier was killed and another one
was wounded in Bingol when a military vehicle exploded on a mine.
Evrensel / Protestors objecting to the Istanbul NATO Summit in
Gaziantep paraded towards the AKP Gaziantep Branch and condemned
the summit.
Zaman / In Guclukonak, Sirnak, people gathered in front of the
Governorate building condemning the recent terrorist attacks.
People shouted slogans for peace and announced that they
experienced the pain of terror for 20 years and don't want to go
back to those days.
