SUBJECT: SOUTHEAST TURKEY PRESS SUMMARY JUNE 22, 2004

POLITICAL, SECURITY, HUMAN RIGHTS
Radikal, Bolge, Evrensel, Milliyet, Hurriyet, Ekspres, Ozgur
Gundem / Three Turkish soldiers were wounded during a protest at
Adana's Incirlik village objecting to the NATO Summit.
Twenty-six protestors were detained after the incident. Hurriyet
reports about 33 protestors being detained.
Zaman, Milli Gazete, Tercuman, Sabah, Hurriyet, Ozgur Gundem /
Turkish General Staff deployed its special forces in Tunceli,
Bingol, Diyarbakir and Sirnak. During operations in Tunceli last
night five alleged terrorists were killed and a Turkish soldier
was wounded. Tunceli Governor Mustafa Erkal announced that the
Tunceli people are very uncomfortable about the terrorist
attacks.
