This is the Southeastern Turkey press summary for June 17, 2004.

POLITICAL, SECURITY, HUMAN RIGHTS
Ozgur Gundem, / Ozgur Gundem reports that the six-year long
peaceful period which was realized with the hard work of Kurdish
People's leader Abdullah Ocalan is now g deteriorating with the
operations in Southeast Turkey.
Turkiye, Evrensel, Yeni Safak, Cumhuriyet, Zaman / The Four
released Kurdish MPs were in Batman and Siirt on June 16
visiting the families of the Turkish soldiers who died during a
clash earlier this week.
Ozgur Gundem / Kurdish prisoners in Malatya's E-Type prison
complained that they were not allowed to speak in Kurdish with
their families and also complained they were not allowed to send
pictures to their friends in other prisons.
Turkiye, Zaman / Alleged terrorists raided the Police station in
Hassa, Hatay, killing a security guard.
Zaman / Due to increasing attacks in the Southeast region,
Turkish soldiers are not allowed to go out to the city for their
weekend breaks in Van, Diyarbakir, Bitlis, Hakkari, Tunceli and
Sirnak.
Sabah Guney / Just 13 days before the coming Istanbul NATO
Summit, a group of people gathered in front of the Adana US
Consulate, protesting against imperialism and condemning the
summit.
