NOMINATING-OFFICER: Joseph Novak
START MEMO NOMINATING-JUSTIFICATION:
Mr. Naseem, an experienced public servant who has over ten
years of service with the Maldivian Ministry of Foreign
Affairs. He has represented the Maldives at numerous high
level UN working body meetings involving workers and
women's rights issues, to redress civil and human rights
abuses, and democracy building. Being a close contact of
President Gayoom, he has accompanied the President on many
of his official visits abroad. During Mission personnel
visits to the Maldives, Mr. Naseem has been very supportive
and professional in his role as Protocol Officer.
Although, Mr. Naseem was in the US, it was mainly in New
York and did not get much of an exposure to observe the
U.S. policy on human rights. If an opportunity is given to
this up-and-coming officer in the Maldivian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, to participate in the MRP on "U.S. Foreign
Policy and Human Rights Issues," would widen his outlook
towards the American Foreign Policy and cement his ties to
the US and further our goals for better relations with
Muslims.
Post confirms that this nomination has "full Coutnry Team
approval."
