START MEMO NOMINATING-JUSTIFICATION:
Ms. Ismail, an accountant by profession, represents the
Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC), which is the oldest
and apex chamber in Sri Lanka. Ms. Ismail has been
with the CCC for eight years, held many positions and
assumed the post of Senior Assistant Secretary-
General/Financial Controller in 1998.
Other than the function as a Financial Controller, Ms.
Ismail has been involved in conceptualizing and
implementing many programs. Ms. Ismail is actively
involved in the Industrial Association and many
services related activities of the CCC. She also
handles the taxation, finance, banking, capital markets
and insurance, and business ethics and governance sub-
committees of the CCC.
Ms. Ismail has excellent future prospects. She is
tipped to become the Secretary-General of the CCC very
soon and will be the first time a woman who will head a
prominent chamber in Sri Lanka. Ms. Ismail has no
previous training or work experience in the U.S. The
IV program on U.S. Financial System will provide a good
opportunity for Ms. Ismail to sharpen her skills and
gain wider exposure to the world economy to serve the
business community and act a catalyst of economic
growth.
