Kiwi’s Shine at Star Worlds Kiwi’s Shine at Star Worlds Kiwi duo, Rohan Lord and Andrew Taylor had another good day at the Star World Championships in Gaeta, Italy, notching up a 9th place in racing. They are now in 7th position at these Worlds which has over 100 teams competing at it.
The World Championships is the last chance for New Zealand to qualify and currently Lord and Taylor are in an excellent position to qualify. There are only 4 places left for nations to qualify.
This World Championship is a 6 race regatta, and has 4 races to go.
New Zealand has enjoyed past success at the Olympic Games in the Star Class, where in 1992, Rod Davis and Don Cowie won a silver medal.

Sailors Showing Great Form Day 2 of racing at the ISAF World Ranking Regatta held in Hyere’s France, had our Kiwi sailors in excellent form. After 3 races, our Olympic rep for the Lasers, Hamish Pepper, is leading the Lasers after winning 2 races, and Shelley Hesson and Linda Dickson are leading in the 470 women’s class.
Others to move up the scoreboard from yesterday were Simon Cooke and Alastair Gair in the 470 Men’s class, who are now in 3rd position after winning a race. Sarah Macky in the Europe Class, had a 4th in her race to move her up the scoreboard to 23rd, and Melinda Henshaw and Jan Shearer in the 470 women’s also had a solid performance and moved into 9th position.
In the Finn Class, dramatic wind shifts proved tough for our sailors, Clifton Webb, Dean Barker and Peter Fox, who are currently placed 31st, 32nd and 40th respectively. New Zealand is still to select an Olympic representative in the Finn class, which will be known after the Finn European Championships in May.
