It was thrills and spills aplenty today [Monday 17 July 2000] at this year's Continental Cup A Soup Celebrity Ski Race
at Coronet Peak in Queenstown.
Celebrities from around the country turned out in force to take part in the annual race which forms part of the Air New
Zealand Queenstown Winter Festival.
Dean Barker of Team NZ proved to be just as much at home on land as he is on the water, after successfully navigating
the course to win the Best Overall Performance award.
A spectacular collision midway down the ski run between Jeremy `Newsboy' Wells and Oliver Driver of Spectator Magazine
earned the pair a Best Crash award. Andy Dye `Handy Andy' of Mitre 10 Changing Rooms turned out to be also handy with
the skis, after achieving the fastest recorded time in race.
TV Presenter, Suzy Aiken, received special mention as Most Improved Performance on Skis, while Popstars Presenter, Peter
Urlich, was highly commended for successfully making it down the slope on only his second day ever on skis.
Unilever's own action hero in red tights - Captain Continental - also took part in the race opting to ride the wave of
the latest craze `snowboarding' instead of skiing down the run.
