Sponsor dollars for NZ U21 Netball Team – a Dot Com first on the eve of World Youth Cup
AUCKLAND -- Monster.co.nz announced today its principle sponsorship of New Zealand’s under 21 netball team. Monster is
the first Dot Com to aim its sponsorship dollars at a sporting team or event in New Zealand.
“As the international leader in online career sites, the Monster network specialises in firsts,” says Julie Cleeland
Nicholls, Vice President of Marketing – Asia Pacific. “For Monster.co.nz’s first sponsorship, we have chosen a strong,
dynamic team of young women that have what it takes to make it to the top. This is also the first time a dot com has
taken a tangible form and supported New Zealand sport.”
The 2000 sponsorship deal – with rights to future years – will provide the team with new outfits, travel assistance,
advertising dollars and support for ongoing development of the current team and up-and-coming talented players.
The team will now be known as the Monster Under 21s. They depart from Auckland on 14 July for the World Youth Cup in
Wales from July 20-29.
Monster Under 21s comprises:
Adine Harper (Captain – Otago Rebels and Silver Ferns) Jodi Te Huna (Vice Captain – Capital Shakers)
Daneka Wipiiti (Western Flyers) Jodi Whitmore (CMTV Cometz)
Angelina Yates (Otago Rebels) Jenna Swann (Otago Rebels)
Maree Grubb (Canterbury Flames) Allison Toi (CMTV Cometz)
Tata Pate (Otago Rebels) Jennifer Ferguson (Otago Rebels)
Jolene Henry (Western Flyers) Rachel Rasmussen (Auckland Diamonds)
Georgina Salter (Coach) Sharon Kearney (Physio)
Jackie Barron (Manager)
“Monster.co.nz’s decision to become our primary sponsor for the under 21s is exciting news,” says Netball New Zealand
CEO Shelley McMeeken. “Their support enables us to maximise our winning potential by boosting our team’s image and
subsequently our confidence.”
“Our team is well and truly primed for this tournament having recently participated in the Fisher and Paykel Series with
matches against Team Pasifika and the World 7. With our match fitness levels, and new look, the Monster Under 21s have a
real chance of coming home triumphant.”
The sponsorship was announced on a harbour cruise this afternoon to farewell the team.
“We’re in the business of assisting people in taking charge of their life and career path. We are committed to helping
those entering the job market for the first time to best utilise their skills and experience. Sponsoring the Monster
Under 21s is an extension of this commitment,” Ms Cleeland Nicholls said.
