Inaugural Push Play Award comes South
Christchurch City Council Leisure and its partners the YMCA, Sport Canterbury, National Heart Foundation and Crown Public Health are delighted to receive one of the inaugural Push Play Awards for excellence in promoting healthy, active lifestyles.
The Push Play with Active Christchurch campaign was initiated in June 1999 to strengthen the promotion and provision of physical opportunities available in Christchurch.
Community Recreation Providers have also been involved through accreditation of their activities/events and inclusion in the Push Play with Active Christchurch marketing campaign.
" A highlight of the campaign has been the establishment of several 30 minute and one hour walking groups," said Leisure Manager, Alistair Graham. "These have been very successful with over 8000 people taking part since October 1998."
Hillary Commission chairman Sir Brian Lochore said the Push Play campaign was making incredible progress within our New Zealand communities. "Council support has provided key opportunities for people to be active in our parks, playing fields, pools and sports centres and 70 mayors personally support the campaign. Without councils, there would be fewer opportunities for people to enjoy physical activity".
Information on how to be more active can be obtained by calling 0800 ACTIVE (228 483).
ENDS.
