Seven cycle ways are being created at present with another 20 in the planning or discussion stages.
The creation of cycle ways are being carried out in Antigua Street, Clyde Road, part of Colombo Street, Ferry Road,
North Parade, Travis Road, and a pathway is being built alongside the rail line from Wairakei Road to Fendalton Road.
Projects undergoing consultation are cycle lanes in Fendalton Road from the railway line to Hagley Park and on Rossall
Street and Strowan Road. Off-road pathways under consultation include a section in Merivale to connect Office Road with
Rugby Street, through Riccarton Bush, additional sections of North Parade and extension of the railway pathway to Matai
Street.
The Christchurch City Council's cycle officer, Brent Ferigo, is also in the process of removing some barriers in parks
that hinder cyclists and people in wheel chairs.
Future cycle projects are in Armagh Street, Ferry Road and Main Road, at the Aldwins-Ensors-Ferry roads intersection,
Manchester Street, South Hagley Park, Riccarton Road, Rolleston Avenue, Tennyson Street, and Waltham Road. When the
Bealey Avenue-Carlton Mill Road intersection is redesigned it will incorporate cycle facilities.
The Riccarton Road roundabout is to be reshaped and will also improve the safety of cyclists.
