William Hill Will Refund All Stakes If England Is Expeled By UEFA
LONDON, June 19 RNewswire-AsiaNet/ -- Internet bookmakers William Hill (http://www.willhill.com) have announced that
they will refund all stakes on bets for England to win Euro 2000 should they be expelled from the tournament by UEFA for
the misbehaviour of their fans.
"It would not be fair to expect punters to suffer for the actions of so-called supporters of the team," said William
Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe. "Although we would be returning a small fortune in stake money it is the only morally
acceptable position to take. Of course all bets on other countries will be unaffected."
Hills have already taken internet bets from punters in 94 countries on Euro 2000.
William Hill already have a million-pound plus liability on England to win Euro 2000 and paid out hundreds of thousands
to punters who backed them to beat Germany, including one bet of 10,000 pounds sterling from a client in Blackburn.
"Punters all over the world can now place their bets on England safe in the knowledge that they will not lose out should
a worst- case situation arise".
William Hill currently quote England at 13/2 fourth favourites to win Euro 2000 behind 9/4 favourites France, Holland at
3/1 and Italy at 5/1.
In 1986 William Hill refunded stakes to punters who lost out to Maradona's "Hand of God" World Cup goal against England.
