Weekend right for a good kick off
The low pressure system that brought rain to the North Island and top of the South Island over the last couple of days
is moving away to the east today, leaving a cool southerly flow in its wake. "This should mean a fine weekend for many
places, although the east and south of both islands can still expect cloud and a few showers," said MetService
Meteorologist Stephen Glassey.
Clear conditions with a southerly breeze are expected for the Bledisloe Cup test in Auckland on Saturday evening.
"People won't need their umbrellas for the match, but a warm jacket may come in handy as it will be cool," Glassey said.
A temperature of around 10C is expected at kick off falling to 7C by the end of the match. Dry weather is also forecast
in the lead up to the game.
During Tuesday and Wednesday, the upper North Island was the wettest place in New Zealand with parts of Northland and
Coromandel receiving over 100mm of rain, but now they are in for an extended dry spell lasting well into next week.
"Although there will be some beautiful clear winter days, these conditions will produce cold overnight temperatures and
frosts in many places," Glassey said.
Fine conditions are expected to continue in the west of the South Island,but the east and south of both islands can
expect a few showers over the coming days, and even a dusting of snow about the higher roads until early Friday. Road
snowfall warnings have been issued for the Desert Road and Rimutaka Hill Road overnight Thursday, where 1 to 2cm may
accumulate on the road. However, the snow is expected to disappear during Friday as freezing levels rise.
