A welcome break ahead
Many places will experience a brief break from the stubborn cold southwesterly flow on Thursday, except around Northland
and Auckland where southwesterlies and showers, with small hail will continue. "Light winds and generally fine
conditions are expected for much of New Zealand today, however there will be some showers in the far north and later in
the far south" MetService meteorologist Elke Louw commented.
On Friday, another front is likely to bring a return to southwesterly winds along eastern coasts of both islands again.
"An area of high pressure over the Tasman Sea slowly starts to build over New Zealand heading intoSaturday, but not
before one last sneaky southerly brings some showers for the southern and eastern parts of the North Island and eastern
coastal regions of the South Island", Louw said.
For those football fans attending the games at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington on Saturday, "It would be a good idea
to take an extra jersey with you, as the southerlies are expected to freshen in the evening which could drag in a few
showers and give an extra bite in the air", Louw went on to say.
On Sunday, the high pressure continues to build over New Zealand,resulting in a chilly and frosty start, with the
showers being kicked away to leave behind mainly fine conditions and light winds for most.
