The Dawkins Delusion
by Curtis White, Professor of English, Illinois State University
Synopsis: Richard Dawkins, Stephen Hawking, Sam Harris, and many leading scientists share an essentially unacknowledged
ideology. So also do many of the institutions they inhabit. That ideology is that the humanities are unnecessary for an
education and unnecessary to an understanding of the human condition. Philosophy, and many other forms of understanding,
they believe, can be discarded and ignored in favour of neurobiology, genetics, and other branches of science. The
necessity of resisiting this misguided intellectual landgrab is the subject of a new book by Curtis White:-The Science Delusion: Asking the Big Questions in a Culture of Easy Answers from Melville House Books. Here, he describes some critical reactions to his new book.
