A quieter week but some chilly nights
This week will be far quieter weather-wise but the lingering cold air will help maintain frosty conditions in many
places.
MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented,"Mostly clear skies, light winds, and in some
places extensive snow cover will be the perfect recipe for night-time cooling, meaning very frosty conditions."
A broad southwest flow will cover much of the country for most of this week,so there won't be any dramatic warm ups -
meaning the snow that has accumulated will take a bit longer to thaw. Any day-time melting could also lead to some very
icy conditions on untreated roads as moisture refreezes overnight.
Days will be mostly dry and fine with sunny spells. Later in the week a new system will spread some easterly rain across
northern New Zealand.
For Queenstown Winter Festival, sunny days with light winds around Queenstown, as well as a great snow base, bring a
great week.
