The big high to stick around this week
The large anticyclone currently sitting over New Zealand will continue to give fine and settled weather to most of the country this week.
Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented "The fine and sunny weather will stay with us, because the upper level winds that steer weather systems are currently stuck or blocked over New Zealand. It's a bit like an immovable rock in a fast flowing stream."
As with every high, there will be some cloud around the fringes. The fresh easterly flow in the far north will continue to bring a few showers to the east coast from Northland to Coromandel. These showers should drift further south to Gisborne around mid-week. There will also be a good easterly swell to north-eastern coasts.
The recent lack of rain around much of New Zealand will make the fire danger extremely high for many provinces.
