Some rain this weekend then more settled
This weekend, another trough will slide up the country bringing with it a brief spell of wind and rain.
MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented;"a passing front will bring a period of wet and windy weather mostly to western places during the weekend, then it looks like the weather will start to settle down as we head into the new week."
The front will be most active over the West Coast of the South Island where the heaviest falls are likely. Warm northwesterlies briefly return for Canterbury on Saturday, where temperatures are expected to reach the high twenties.
On Sunday the remnants of this front will move across the north of the North Island before clearing away. A large ridge of high pressure will then build in across New Zealand from the west.
This will help make Monday, Wellington Anniversary Day, mostly fine and dry across much of New Zealand. At this point it looks like the anticyclone will sit across New Zealand through to midweek.
