Rain and cooler days
A slow moving front, currently lying across central New Zealand, will bring outbreaks of rain or showers across many places this week.
Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented "This rain could be heavy over parts of central New Zealand as a low slides across the middle of the country during Tuesday. In some places the rain will be welcome." MetService have issued a Severe Weather Warning for the heavy rain in Taranaki, the Tararua Range, Nelson and Marlborough and a Severe Weather Watch for Wellington and Buller.
The hot and dry north-westerlies will be absent this week, as they are replaced by cooler air in many places, especially across Canterbury.Parched paddocks in Canterbury could also receive some much needed rain from this system, although it is unlikely to be as much as occurs in the provinces further north.
A cooler southwest flow will then spread across the country later on Tuesday with the rain turning more showery in places. It will slowly turn drier and more settled in the north by the end of the week.
