AusBiotech 2009 hosts largest UK delegation ever
Monday 26 October 2009 - The United Kingdom will send its largest biotechnology delegation ever to AusBiotech 2009, the premier Australasian biotechnology conference this week in Melbourne, Australia confirming the strong reputation of the event internationally.
The delegation of 19 UK companies, academics and government organisations will attend the conference to develop partnerships and share ideas and research with local Australian companies.
“The UK government has recognised the ever increasing global stature of Australia in biotechnology – now ranked sixth in the world – and sees great potential for further partnerships and closer working relationships with Australian companies,” said Mr Jon Mowles, Sector Specialist for Life Sciences, UK Trade & Investment.
“The AusBiotech 2009 conference is the most important biotechnology conference in the Asia Pacific region, and a strong UK presence is crucial to maintaining our own status as the world’s second largest biotechnology industry. Our delegation will seek to build on already strong partnerships between Australian companies and academics and maximise any further opportunities to work with Australian organisations in research, innovation and business.”
“We are delighted to have such strong UK representation at this year’s AusBiotech 2009 conference confirming the strong reputation of Australia’s R sector amongst our British counterparts,” said Dr Anna Lavelle, CEO AusBiotech.
UK Trade & Investment will hold a free satellite session for conference delegates titled ‘Brains of Britain’ on Tuesday 27 October to provide a preview of the latest developments in livestock, vaccines, drug discovery and development, bioinformatics, antibodies, stem cells, bioprocessing and translational research out of the UK. This will also provide an opportunity for local conference attendees to meet the UK delegation prior to the official launch of the event.
AusBiotech 2009 will be held from Tuesday 27 October – Friday 30 October
