Auckland, October, 2009: - Sony is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the annual AUT Creative Technologies Scholarship.
The winner of the scholarship, which is open to any person planning to study Creative Technologies in 2010, will have their full tuition fees paid by Sony New Zealand for the first year of their study.
Sony launched the scholarship in 2008 to provide support for emerging talent in the industry and now offers it on an annual basis to four students.
This year’s recipients were required to submit an assignment outlining what technology people would be using or wearing if they were to walk down the street in 2028.
25 year-old Tarei King was one of the four successful applicants in 2008. Tarei has found the scholarship very useful over the past year - not only has it taken away some of the financial pressure that comes with being a student, it has also helped him find some direction and future thinking in his career.
Tarei plans to go on and complete his honors and masters and hopes to pursue a career in Visual Programming or Urban Interaction.
“I am very grateful to Sony for their support and hope that I can return the favour one day, “said Tarei.
Tarei encourages anyone thinking of applying for the scholarship to just give it a go. “Even if you are unsuccessful it is still a great experience and learning tool. For me it provided an exciting challenge and a chance to let my imagination run free and see what I could come up with.”
Anyone interested in applying for the scholarship can visit sony.co.nz/sponsorship for further details.
