International Recognition For Human Factors Trainer
Werner Naef, a Wellington-based specialist in human factors training, has received a rare international award of
excellent achievement from the prestigious European Association of Aviation Psychology at their 28th conference in
Vallencia, Spain.
Mr Naef has spent 30 years researching, developing and training airline pilots and airport management in the fields of
aviation psychology and stress management. More recently, he has extended his knowledge into other high stress fields,
such as rail transport, health, defence and occupational health. All of these industry sectors provide their own
professional technical training but Mr Naef specializes in human factors training, understanding the psychological
issues when people get under stress in high risk situations, and helping management to recognize early warning signs of
distress, and develop management solutions.
Swiss-born Mr Naef came to New Zealand in 2003. He is a former international airline pilot and a fighter pilot in the
Swiss Airforce. He is now developing advanced decoding behaviour and stress management training for businesses in
Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Among the corporate clients are Air New Zealand, Ministry of Civil Defence,
McDonalds, Lufthansa, Swiss Rail, NSW RailCorp and Sydney Ferries.
The international EAAP Award is in recognition for excellent achievements of individuals and teams in the European
aviation psychology and human factors. It is only the second time ever that this award has been presented in the 28 year
history of the European Association of Aviation Psychology.
