Another Spring Front
MetService has issued a Severe Weather Warning and a Severe Weather Watch for wind and rain associated with the passage of yet another front across New Zealand on Saturday.
"As is typical with spring fronts", said MetService Weather Ambassador,Bob McDavitt, "rain is forecast to be briefly heavy in western areas of the South Island and possibly over the Tararua Ranges and parts of the central North Island high country. It is also likely to be very windy for a while on Saturday in eastern areas from Southland to Wairarapa, and in Wellington, with the highest gusts reaching around 120km/hr."
People visiting the eastern foothills of the Southern Alps are reminded that rain should find its way into the headwaters of the main Canterbury rivers.
Behind the front, a southerly change is likely to sweep across the east of the South Island during Saturday, bringing cold rain and snow down to about 600 metres.
Latest Severe Weather Warning and Watch details are available from the MetService web site.
Sunday should turn out fine and sunny almost everywhere.
