More Rain Coming
MetService meteorologists expect a deepening low to move from the Tasman Sea onto New Zealand on Wednesday. Severe
weather warnings for heavy rain from Tuesday afternoon have been issued for Northland, Coromandel, Western Bay of Plenty
and northern Gisborne, and these regions are also likely to experience northeast winds up to gale force. On Wednesday
severe southeast gales are likely to affect Taranaki, Wanganui, Manawatu, Kapiti, Wellington and Marlborough.
"This system will bring more rain to the already saturated ground in the northern and eastern parts of the North
Island", commented MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt. "These regions have still not properly drained from last
weekend's storm and are now prone to surface flooding or hill-slide slips. Even though winds are not expected to reach
severe gale over northern New Zealand, trees and buildings weakened by the last storm may experience further damage."
According to Mr. McDavitt, the rain band associated with this system is expected to spread south on Wednesday and move
onto eastern areas from Gisborne to Wairarapa and from the Kaikoura Coast to Canterbury. "In Canterbury there will be
appreciable amounts of rain on the lowlands and snow in the mountains.
