Mostly Settled Weather For Queen's Birthday Weekend
MetService weather forecasters expect there to be little chance of severe weather during the coming long weekend.
"During this Queen's Birthday holiday the weather in many places will be good for getting outdoors, though not all the
time", said MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt. "On Friday, those travelling around the west and north of the
North Island should look out for showers, but in most other places the weather should be fine."
On Saturday and Sunday, showers are expected in the west of both islands but it should be fine in the east. However,
during Sunday a cold southerly is expected to bring showers to eastern and southern parts of the South Island. Monday is
expected to be drier in most places.
According to Mr. McDavitt, this relatively dry and somewhat cool forecast continues the recent trend as we move into the
months of winter. "During May, so far, several places around the country have had less than ten millimetres of rain:
Timaru has only had 6 mm, Port Taharoa on the Waikato coast has had 7 mm, and Nelson has had 8 mm."
