Mako's product makes finalist in Australian innovation awards
An internet security and management device from New Zealand's Mako Networks, is a finalist in the ZDNet Australia and
CeBIT 2008 Emerging Innovation award.
NetComm, which markets the Mako System as NetAssure in Australia ,is one of 40 finalists in a category characterised as
having made 'a real business impact on the Australian landscape in the past 12 months".
Late last year Mako took a 13% stake in Australian NetComm which now markets the Mako NetAssure product through
Australia.
Mako Networks is the developer of a managed VPN broadband service that offers customers enterprise level control of
their connection to the internet. Sold in Australia as NetAssure, it connects, protects and controls a business computer
network.
Simon Gamble, Mako Co-founder, says this makes it very easy to link multiple sites together and is a proactive
management tool showing exactly what an internet connection is being used for and enables action if needed.
"Businesses and system integrators alike want their networks to be very easy to manage and control. NetAssure delivers
all this and more in a "shrink-wrapped" package."
The Mako solution links sophisticated router devices, which NetComm is licensed to manufacture, and connects a
customer's network to a hosted central management system. The service acts as an intelligent, customisable, all-in-one
router, web filter and firewall that is remotely managed, creating a total network management and security system
The solution is ideal for small to large organisations especially those multiple offices or stores such as franchises
and retail networks or where shared access by clients or suppliers is required.
"The solution has been a success in the New Zealand market in the small to medium business sector as it has proven to be
more appropriate than the expensive enterprise level solutions," says Simon Gamble.
"Telecom NZ has been the key reseller of Mako services in New Zealand under their own label 'SecureME', selling
thousands of solutions per year with particular success in the Health Sector connecting pharmacies and GPs to the
Ministry of Health Network."
The winners will be announced at CeBIT on May 21.
