Reducing our carbon footprint, reducing stress

Reducing our carbon footprint, reducing stress levels.
It’s estimated between 80 to 100 Wellingtonians participated in an inaugural downtown eco therapy tree potting event in Midland Park recently, including three city councillors (Celia Wade-Brown, Ray Ahipene-Mercer and Iona Pannett).
Punters potted up native seedlings from the Southern Environment Association’s plant nursery and the seedlings were then taken to a former landfill area in southern Wellington where they were replanted.
The idea behind the potting is that while reducing Wellington’s carbon footprint, CBD workers get a break from the busy work day.

“I think a lot of people who work in downtown Wellington really want to do something for the environment, without protesting, without a big fuss. [This] makes it really easy for people to do something enjoyable that is also positive for the environment,” says Organiser Ron Eckman.
The downtown eco-therapy team plans to hold another event soon. For more information,email:downtownecotherapy@gmail.com
Downtown Eco Therapy is supported by the Wellington City Council, Victoria University, Wellington Regional Council, Ministry for the Environment, Southern Environment Association and Bunnings.
