News Release
Symantec Delivers Endpoint Encryption Offering to Help Protect Sensitive Information
Full encryption of data protects against unauthorised access and data loss
Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced Symantec Endpoint Encryption, designed to provide advanced encryption for
desktops, laptops and removable storage devices. Symantec Endpoint Encryption is a scalable, enterprise-wide security
offering that prevents unauthorised access to endpoints with strong encryption and access control technologies.
Designed to help customers protect sensitive information and mitigate the increasing risks of data loss, Symantec
Endpoint Encryption offers scalable, centralised management for easy deployment and administration. Customers may also
leverage existing tools through synchronisation with Microsoft Active Directory for group policy management. In
addition, Symantec Endpoint Encryption meets government directives and regulations as the audit reporting capabilities
help customers demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements that mandate the use of encryption technologies to
better protect data.
According to the Symantec Internet Security Threat Report, theft or loss of computer or other data-storage medium made
up 46 percent of all data breaches that could lead to identity theft during the period of January 1 to June 30, 2007.
“As the amount of information generated by businesses continues to increase and is stored on a growing number of
endpoint devices that may be compromised, lost or stolen, encryption should be applied, based on policy, to help protect
sensitive information and interactions as part of a larger information protection strategy,” said Brian Foster, vice
president, product management, Symantec Corp. “Symantec’s encryption solutions will continue to provide customers a
balance of simplicity and sophistication to ease implementation while meeting business needs.”
Symantec Endpoint Encryption offers both full disk encryption as well as removable storage encryption capabilities.
Symantec Endpoint Encryption – Full Disk Edition is the full disk encryption component designed to protect all data on
the hard drive of Microsoft Windows-based machines. It allows IT administrators to encrypt the hard drive to protect
information and prevent the exposure of sensitive data should a machine be lost or stolen. The encryption technology is
designed to be transparent to the end user and performed with minimal performance impact.
Symantec Endpoint Encryption – Removable Storage Edition is the removable storage component that is designed to protect
all data on USB, Firewire, Compact Flash, iPod, CD, DVD and other storage devices and removable media. It encrypts files
defined by central policy and on the fly, when copied to removable media. Businesses of all sizes are able to maximise
the productivity benefits of using removable storage devices while minimising the risks these devices pose to data
security.
