Wetlands Conference vindicates saving of Happy Valley.

FOR IMMEDIATE USE
The Wai Wetlands Symposium is being held at Canterbury University in Christchurch from the14th to16th of February. Wetlands are nationally important and interest to the scientific community.
"Over 90% of the wetlands in New Zealand have been destroyed." said Alan Liefting, a Save Happy Valley Coalition spokesperson. "This makes what is left of great value."
"The conference is presenting topics on wetland restoration so why is it that we are still destroying them?"
"Solid Energy, a state owned enterprise, is intent on destroying some of New Zealand's last remaining wetlands at Happy Valley. These wetlands have exceptionally high conservation value. It is being done for short term economic gain and results in long term environmental loss. This goes against what the majority of New Zealanders want since most people want a better environment rather than more money in their back pocket."
