Climate Messenger Brings ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ To Te Papa

New Zealanders will soon have the opportunity to hear one of Al Gore’s ‘climate messengers’, Randall Pearce, speaking on
climate change at Te Papa. On the evening of Tuesday 13 November, Mr Pearce will deliver the presentation that inspired
the Academy Award winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth.
ANZ is pleased to support this public lecture. ‘As one of New Zealand's largest organisations, we recognise the
importance of the climate change issue for our customers and New Zealand as a whole. We all have a role to play in
managing our impact on the environment. For our part, we are actively working to reduce our ecological footprint and aim
to achieve carbon neutrality in the next two years,’ says ANZ National Bank CEO Graham Hodges.
‘We welcome Mr Pearce to New Zealand for this thought-provoking and interesting presentation,’ Mr Hodges says.
Mr Pearce is one of the 75 ‘climate messengers’ selected to help spread Al Gore’s message on climate change in
Australia. He was trained to present the slideshow by Mr Gore and a team of climate change scientists and educators last
year. Since then, he has spoken to a wide range of community and business groups. A social researcher by profession, Mr
Pearce volunteers his time to spread the climate change message.
‘Climate change is a social issue as much as an environmental one. Al Gore’s great achievement has been to instigate a
change in public attitudes regarding climate change,’ says Mr Pearce. ‘I feel privileged to have been invited to bring
that message to New Zealand.’
The visually stunning presentation weaves in some recent and interesting research data on community attitudes and
behavior regarding climate change from around the world.
‘Thanks to New Zealand-based wildlife ecologist Dr Eric Dorfman, this presentation will include slides specific to the
ways in which climate change is affecting New Zealand,’ Mr Pearce says.
