Another Bite Of Winter
MetService meteorologists have issued a heavy snow warning for Otago, Canterbury and the Kaikoura Coast areas for
Tuesday morning.
"Brace for another bite of winter," commented MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt. "Strong cold southerly winds
are coming. They arrive over Southland and Otago late on Monday and will be working their way northwards along the east
coast of the South Island tonight, turning rain to snow there in the early hours on Tuesday."
McDavitt added that the snow is likely to reach sea-level by dawn Tuesday with some heavy falls to low levels. "The snow
should ease to scattered showers later in the day, but the strong cold southerlies will continue into Wednesday. Eastern
North Island areas will then be on the receiving end with wintry showers, near-freezing windchill, and fresh snow on the
hills."
Hazardous driving conditions will be experienced over eastern South Island areas on Tuesday and over eastern North
Island areas on Wednesday. "It'll be one of those winter days where staying indoors is preferable to going outdoors.
Keep up to date with the latest forecasts and wax those skis."
