Leaden Skies For Anzac Dawn
MetService meteorologists are forecasting foreboding and leaden skies for dawn service on ANZAC day this year. A heavy
rain warning is in force for Westland and Canterbury and this may need to be extended southwards into Otago.
"Grey skies will be the norm in New Zealand for the ANZAC down ceremonies," commented MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob
McDavitt. "Dry conditions are likely only in Wellington and from Napier to Kaikoura. All other parts of the country will
at least have some drizzle or rain becoming widespread at some part of the morning."
McDavitt added that a wind change over Canterbury on ANZAC day to cooler southeasterlies will bring the region unusually
wet and windy weather. "This will be the most significant rain that Canterbury has seen in months and it is likely to
bring very poor driving conditions and cause problems."
During the next few days Otago may also be added to the list of severe weather warnings for heavy rain. Concerned
travellers and holiday-makers may check the latest details through the media or on the MetService web site.
