Pasifika-IT Event a Huge Success
The 2020 Communications Trust organized Pasifika-IT day held on Friday, the 31st of March 2006 was a huge success, says organizer Don Hollander.
The meeting was organized to take advantage of the large number of Pacific IT people in Wellington for the ICANN Wellington meeting and Pacific Communications Forum of 16 South Pacific Ministers.
Mr Hollander, chair of the 2020 Communications Trust which has a brief to spread the benefits of ICT, says the Pasifika IT Day attracted more than 70 people from at least 16 countries.
“It was also very useful for people in New Zealand who have an interest in ICT in the Pacific to meet over a range of issues.
Among those attending were the Ulu (Prime Minister) of Tokelau, the Chairman of the Pacific Island Chapter of the Internet Society (PICISOC), the Chairman of UNESCO’s Information for All (IFAP) program, and Associate Pacific Island Affairs Minister, Luamanuvao Winne Laban.
There were more than 20 speakers and the conference was supported by ten sponsors, including several from the private sector based in New Zealand, Fiji and Samoa.
Details of the conference and copies of presentations are available at www.pasifika-it.com
